The Institute for Local Self-Reliance’s national Composting for Community Initiative promotes a decentralized and diverse composting infrastructure as part of a comprehensive food waste reduction strategy. We provide research and information, technical assistance and training, policy advocacy, and convenings and have active projects on the ground in Baltimore, DC, Atlanta and other cities. We have published numerous resources on food waste recovery spanning composting basics, national statistics, job generation data, and model policies and programs.
